Hurricane Sandy Information
As New Jersey residents recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture encourages them to be prepared to take measures to protect their pets and livestock.
Those who do not already have emergency plans in place may visit www.ready.nj.gov/, where there are basic preparedness tips and steps listed to protect animals.
The state's County Animal Response Teams were instrumental in the sheltering and rescue of hundreds of pets during the emergency. They are always looking for volunteers.

Farm Service Agency Assistance
Feb. 15, 2013: Governor Christie Announces Agricultural Natural Disaster Designation Approved for 14 New Jersey Counties
Dec. 19, 2012: Damaged deer fencing is now covered under the Emergency Conservation Program. Please call your local FSA office for details.
Farmers who suffered damage or loss of livestock, crops or buildings should call their local FSA office.

Farm Credit East
Farm Credit East is encouraging farm families impacted by Hurricane Sandy to apply for financial assistance through their Farm Credit East Cares program. The program will be providing grants of up to $500 to aid farm families that suffered damage or loss as a result of this natural disaster. Farm families within the states of New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are eligible to apply. It is not limited to Farm Credit East customers. To be eligible, you must be a member of the agricultural community that was directly impacted by this natural disaster and have experienced damage and/or losses in excess of $10,000 as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Christie Administration Announces Recovery Assistance Services for New Jersey Businesses Impacted by Hurricane Sandy
Small Business Administration Assistance
SBA Opens Business Recovery Center in Manahawkin, NJ
The Small Business Administration is offering loans to businesses impacted by the hurricane in Atlantic, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth Ocean and Union counties to replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory and other business assets. Deadline to file for physical damage loans has been extended to January 30, 2013.
For small agricultural cooperatives and small businesses engaged in aquaculture, there are Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Those seeking Economic Injury Disaster loans may be located in the above counties plus the contiguous counties of Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Morris, Passaic and Somerset. The deadline to file an application is July 31, 2013.
