JERSEY FRESH FALL CROPS AT PEAK
Wide Variety of Local Produce Available at Farm Stands and Farmers Markets

(TRENTON) – New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today reminded consumers that the Garden State’s growing season extends through Thanksgiving, with an abundance of fall produce available now at roadside stands, farmers markets and supermarket.
Fall favorites being harvested now by the state’s farmers are: apples, arugula, cilantro, baby spinach and arugula, basil, mint, beets, cabbage, collards, kale, dandelions, dill, eggplant, escarole, endive, leeks, lettuces, parsley, peppers, pumpkins, radishes, turnips, spinach, squash, sweet potatoes, Swiss chard, tomatoes and white potatoes.
“New Jersey’s fall crops go beyond our wonderful pumpkins and apples, usually associated with fall in the Garden State,” said Secretary Fisher. “We have an abundance of greens, herbs and so much more. I urge consumers to bring some Jersey Fresh fall produce home to round out any meal or just for a healthy snack.”

New Jersey ranks nationally in the production of some of these great fall vegetables: 3rd in spinach; 4th in bell peppers; and 9th in squash.
