Innovation in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - Public Entities
On August 20, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) approved $20 million in competitive grants for innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy projects at state facilities.

This new program is funded with federal stimulus money allocated to New Jersey's State Energy Program (SEP) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The primary goals of the program are to: reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced to meet the State's electricity needs, support the goal of the State's Energy Master Plan ("EMP"), provide funds that will encourage the creation of green collar jobs in the state, and further the goals of ARRA and the EMP.

The following grants have been selected:

New Jersey Meadowlands Commission - Landfill Solar Project - $8.5 million.

New Jersey Institute of Technology - Residence Hall Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy Upgrade Project - $1,675,084.00.

William Paterson University - Smart Buildings/Energy Management System Project - $1.120 million.

Richard Stockton College - Solar Thermal/Solar PV and Demand Side Management Project $3.465 million.

Rutgers Office of Research and Sponsored Programs - Eco Complex - Gas Boiler Retrofit Project - $63,100.00

The Board approved the top seven projects.
