Did
you know that certain environmental factors can adversely
impact the health of your family? High levels of mercury
are dangerous to pregnant women and the development
of young children. Excessive levels of arsenic in our
drinking water increase the risk of cancer. Soot and
exhaust from diesel trucks and buses are contributing
to high rates of asthma and premature deaths.
Since
2002, the Governor has placed stringent arsenic standards
and the strongest protections possible on the state's
drinking water. The Governor has proposed a requirement
that New Jersey plants reduce mercury emissions and
he has set a goal to reduce soot and smog air pollution
by 20% in the next decade.
The
Governor has issued an Executive Order requiring state
government departments and agencies to ensure environmental
justice in their programs and policies. Read
