Promises Made Promises Kept

tan_square "I promised to make sure our seniors did not have to choose between the medicine they need or food on their tables -- we did it -- by working with casino industry leaders to fund the nation's premiere prescription drug plans."

Looking Out for New Jersey's Seniors

New Jersey's seniors built our homes and raised our families. After working hard for years, seniors should not have to continuously worry about how to pay for their prescription drugs or living expenses. As promised, Governor McGreevey has worked to make seniors' lives easier.

  • Fully-funded the nation's best prescription drug program without raising prescription costs and without reducing eligibility of participants - $800 million to PAAD and Senior Gold.
  • Dedicated $30 million to offset energy bills for eligible residents.
  • Ensured Homestead Rebate of $775 for 1.5 million seniors and sent $23 million in Property Tax Freeze checks to over 100,000 senior households.
  • Helped over 300 communities earn senior discounts of up to 15% for cable TV.
  • Created new ways to help eligible seniors pay utility and telephone bills, and gave eligible seniors a phone bill credit of $11/month.
  • Created the toughest "Do Not Call" list in the nation.
  • Protected seniors from losing their homes and assets to deceptive lenders - implementing some of the strongest safeguards in the nation.
