Program Description:
A self contained program for students with severe to profound hearing loss has been designed to develop language skills in American Sign Language and English. The teacher of the deaf provides instruction in content areas. An educational interpreter provides interpreting as a related services for special subjects in the age appropriate general education programs. Speech and language specialists provide one-to- one speech and language therapy sessions for articulation and auditory training. Group speech sessions are also offered for the development of pragmatic language skills. State of the art FM systems and soundfield systems are available in the classroom. Instructional technology such as Smart Boards and personal computers are also utilized for class instruction.

Program Description:
The Secondary Hearing Impaired Program offers a continuum of program options: full time placements in regular education programs with related services. A consultative teaching model is used to support general education teachers and small group instruction. Exploratory and support classes are available and taught by a teacher of the deaf. All academic and extracurricular activities are accessible to students who are deaf with the support of the appropriate related services and accommodations. CART provides equal access for students in need of support. FM systems and other assistive devices are available to students, as needed.

Program Description:
The Listening and Spoken Language program, operated by Bergen County Special Services School District, is placed within the school community of Midland Park Public Schools. The elementary program for students who are deaf/hard of hearing, offers a continuum of program options and services for this population. Students have the option of full-time placement in regular education programs with the collaborative team-teaching offered with the regular education teacher and the teacher of the deaf. Small groups are available. Speech therapists are certified in Auditory Verbal Therapy and address listening needs of students with advanced digital hearing aids and cochlear implants. A full time audiologist is on campus to manage equipment needs for the program.

Program Description:
The center was established in 1988 in response to a demand for comprehensive services for students who are deaf and hard of hearing at the postsecondary level in the state of New Jersey. The center is funded by Camden County College, the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education Special Needs Grant Program, and the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. As a New Jersey Regional Center, Camden County College also provides technical assistance to other New Jersey post-secondary institutions serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The college is also the New Jersey state site for NETAC (Northeast Technical Assistance Center), which is dedicated to working with postsecondary institutions to improve educational access and enhance opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Camden County College in Blackwood, New Jersey offers certificate and degree programs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing seeking career and academic training.

Program Description:
Currently, there are three resident students with a profound hearing loss, one of whom has a cochlear implant. These students have average to above-average ability and are integrated into regular education programs. The two older students are able to do this and be successful with the services of a sign language interpreter. The third student with the cochlear implant has a shadow to aid in re-directing her when she does not fully understand teacher directions. In addition, this child has been placed in a classroom with an FM system, as well as a sound field system. Support services are provided in the area of language development, reading and writing with the teacher of the deaf.

Program Description:

Program Description:
The Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf offers comprehensive educational services for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21. Day and residential programs are available. Program Description:
The Oral/Aural program was started at Greenbrook School in 1988. Students who are deaf/hard of hearing were placed in regular education classes in order to provide these students with a peer group. Program Description:
Manalapan-Englishtown offers a comprehensive program for all the deaf students, depending on their needs. Participation in regular education programs is offered with resource center support with teachers of the deaf. Sign language interpreters, sound field systems for students with cochlear implants and FM systems are available. The students receive speech/language therapy according to their individualized education programs (IEPs). The classroom teachers attend meetings where they are provided with educational strategies for the deaf students in their classrooms. The older students are offered the services of a notetaker. Manalapan-Englishtown strives to create appropriate programs to meet the needs of deaf students.

Program Description:
Currently, seven students enrolled in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District are auditorily impaired. Five of these students receive services in-district, with programs ranging from total mainstreaming in regular education programs with related services, to resource center replacement with certified teachers of the deaf. Two students attend private schools for the handicapped. The district employs one teacher of the deaf for the self-contained, primary-level Communication Impaired class. Two teachers of the deaf/teachers of the handicapped are on the resource center staff in the middle school. All decisions regarding programming are made based on the needs of the students.

Program Description:
The Summit Speech School is a private, nonprofit facility, whose mission is to enable children who are deaf or hard of hearing to take their place in a hearing world by providing educational and therapeutic support services through an auditory/oral program. Using intensive speech, language and listening sessions, children learn to maximize their listening, language and speaking skills. The schools educational team tracks the childrens vocabulary, listening skills, speech, syntax, and discourse skills. The Parent Infant Program offers parents and caregivers the skills and confidence they need to help their young children learn to listen and talk. The Itinerant Mainstream Support Program provides educational and technical support to children and teachers in mainstream programs. Summit Speech School services children in Essex, Hudson, Morris, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Union and Somerset counties.
