(TRENTON) –Acting Governor Richard J. Codey today announced the appointment of Donald Bryan as Acting Commissioner of the Department of Banking and Insurance, effective March 1, 2005.
Bryan, a Burlington resident, has been an employee of the Department since 1982 and Director of the Division of Insurance since 1999. This will not be the first time Bryan has served as the Department’s Acting Commissioner – he served in that role from October 2001 to February 2002.
Codey considers Bryan’s working knowledge of the Department’s many functions to be an important asset.
“Don Bryan’s long experience with the Department of Banking and Insurance will ensure an immediate transition of leadership and assure the stability of this important regulatory agency. I am proud to welcome him to his new post,” Codey said.
Bryan said, “I look forward to building on our Department’s great success. I will continue the progress we have made on creating a competitive insurance marketplace for providers and customers; and will continue our regulation of the state’s financial institutions and real estate industry. I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
Prior to his appointment at the Department’s Division of Insurance, Bryan served as Assistant Commissioner of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs. He worked as a regulatory officer, as manager of the insurance licensing functions and with the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.
Mr. Bryan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia and his law degree from Rutgers-Camden Law School. A member of the New Jersey Bar, he was engaged in private practice prior to his employment with the Department.
