Mercer County’s Waterfront Park
- History and Establishment
- Waterfront Park is located in the capital city of Trenton and is home to the Trenton Thunder, currently the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
- After breaking ground in the summer of 1992, the County officially opened Waterfront Park on May 9, 1994 to the then Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
- The Thunder has consistently been one of the top organizations in all of Minor League Baseball since its inception twelve years ago. The Thunder has drawn over 400,000 fans in each of the last 11 seasons and welcomed its 5,000,000th fan in the history of the franchise this past season. Both of these are records for Minor League Baseball at the Double A level and below.
- The Trenton Thunder, was formally recognized by its governing body(Minor League Baseball) and the other 160 Minor Leagues teams in the United States and Canada as the Number One baseball organization in the nation.
- As the Double A affiliate of the 26-time World Champion New York Yankees fans can see current major league stars like World Series MVP Derek Jeter and fellow Yankee teammates Bernie Williams, and Gary at Waterfront Park while on rehab assignment.

- Facilities
- Comprised of 3 beautiful acres along the banks of the Delaware River.
- The South River Walk Park is located in the outfield parking lot above the route 29 tunnel and the Docks on the Delaware are behind the entrance gates
- There are 16 super boxes that have 16 seats apiece with the best views in the ballpark.
- The Yankee Club is a restaurant available for groups or parties that can accommodate up to 100 people.
- There is a seating capacity of 8300; including 4000 parking spots.

- The Trenton organization has also made a strong commitment to giving back to the community, as the club has raised $2.46-million worth of goods, services and monetary donations through its Grand Slam We Care Foundation.
- · The Trenton Thunder is known nationally for the family fun created during game days with special give a-ways, promotions, fireworks, Boomer the mascot and don't forget “Chase” batdog! “Road to the Majors”
- Many MLB stars have played for the Thunder including Nomar Garciaparra, Tony Clark, David Eckstein, Jeff Suppan, Kevin Youkilis, and Shea Hillenbrand.
- Former Thunder radio broadcasters Andy Freed of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Tom McCarthy of the New York Mets, woked together in Trenton from 1996-2000.
