TRENTON, N.J. — County Executive Brian M. Hughes issued the following statement today following his meeting with former Virginia Governor Mark Warner regarding issues facing Mercer County and the United States.
“I was very pleased to meet with former Governor Warner this morning and welcome him to Mercer County,” began Hughes. “We discussed, among other topics, issues pertinent to Mercer County such as open space and farmland preservation, and the expansion of economic opportunity to continue to grow our local economy. In addition, we discussed issues that will be facing our nation in the coming years as well as our local perspective and his policy stance on these issues.”
Former Governor Warner is widely considered a possible candidate for the 2008 Democratic Presidential nomination and has been crisscrossing the nation meeting with local leaders to learn more about the issues facing our country. Today’s meeting followed an earlier meeting that Hughes held with members of Warner’s staff in the spring of 2006.Please note that County Executive Hughes will be available for further comment on this issue.
