TRENTON, N.J. - Too many children go without, especially during the holiday season, and Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes invites County residents, businesses and civic groups to join Mercer County employees in their annual Holiday Toy Drive.

“Over the years Mercer County employees and residents have generously donated hundreds of toys, supplies and garments to needy children, and I thank them for their generosity,” Hughes said. “I’m proud to announce that Mercer County’s Tender Hearts is this year’s holiday gift recipient. Tender Hearts joins a long list of wonderful area organizations that have benefited from the generosity of our friends and supporters throughout the years, and we applaud the work Tender Hearts does.”

Tender Hearts Association, a nonprofit organization established in 1977 by Mary and Jim Van Hise, helps needy local residents who may have fallen on hard times. It is located in Hamilton.

Hughes asks those who wish to donate to purchase gifts appropriate for children aged infant to teen. Gifts recommended include: baby toys and clothes, children’s hats and gloves, picture books, stuffed animals, pajamas, dolls, Lego’s, toy cars, art supplies, board games, CDs/DVDs, backpacks, books, sports supplies, and gift cards to stores like Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy. There is no minimum or maximum to spend on a gift.

Please do not wrap donated gifts.

Those wishing to donate should bring donations to the McDade Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street, Trenton, or to the Mercer County Connection at Route 33 at Paxson Avenue, Hamilton, in the Acme Shopping Center. For information, call (609) 989-6002.
