TRENTON, N.J.—Are you a trail user or outdoor enthusiast?  Are you curious about a career in a “green” field?  Then join the Mercer County Park Commission on National Trails Day, June 6, 2010 to assist with grooming of a trail at Baldpate Mountain in Hopewell Township.

This year’s project is “Reclaiming the Switchback Trail.” This old logging road and trail has become overgrown with wild multiflora rose, and volunteers are needed to prune away overgrowth, mark the new trail and clear a short section of trail near the summit. The Switchback Trail will provide hikers, birdwatchers and photographers access to the southwestern slope of Baldpate Mountain by connecting the Northwest (red trail) to the field on Route 29.

The event takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Meet at Fiddler’s Creek Road Parking lot, at the base of Baldpate Mountain on Fiddler’s Creek Road, ¼ mile from the intersection of Route 129. Bring work gloves, water and hand-held trimmers or loppers. There will be a limited number of tools available for your use.

All volunteers must be registered to participate, and can do so by emailing jrogers@mercercounty.org. The event is limited to 25 participants, age 16 or older.  Mercer County Park Commission encourages volunteers to sign up for other future projects.
