GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Under direction of a Police Sergeant, or other supervisor in the police unit of an institution or cluster of institutions under the jurisdiction of the Department of Human Services, during an assigned tour of duty does varied tasks involved in patrolling buildings and grounds and safeguarding the peace and safety of clients, residents, employees, and property; does related work as required.

Applicants must be required to pass a medical and psychological examination given by the appointing authority prior to appointment.

Appointees will be required to be free of any disqualifications for appointment as a Police Officer per N.J.S.A.2c: et. Seq. and N.J.S.A. 30:4-14.

Appointees must have attained the age of eighteen (18) years and be a citizen of the United States.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION:  Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of an approved High School Equivalency Certificate.

EXPERIENCE:  One (1) year of experience in police activities intended to provide assistance and protection for persons and property.

 
 
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

Appointees must have completed a police training course approved by the Police Training Commission. 

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. 

NOTE:  Appointees to this position must successfully qualify semi-annually in the use of firearms.
