Schedule: 35-hour workweek. This position has a variant schedule that may include weekday, weeknight and weekend hours to participate in and coordinate community outreach, engagement and special projects.

Duties:
The Librarian 3 will spend 75% of time leading community outreach, engagement and special projects under the direction of the Chief Librarian, Toms River Branch in accordance with the Ocean County Library’s Mission, Goals, and Strategic Plan.
- Connect the community to the Ocean County Library, and Ocean County Library to the community, by building partnerships that support the library’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness.
- Bring staff from the Toms River branch and the Ocean County Library system together to focus on community outreach and engagement through library outreach programs and services.
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs, events and information services for customers and the community.
- Direct and run focus groups and gather data to determine community needs.
- Lead Ocean County Library into new areas of service and information delivery.
- Plan and implement pilot programs through grant opportunities, community partnerships, or multi-branch initiatives.
- Participate in library system-wide committees.
The Librarian 3 will spend 25% of time on reference, readers’ advisory, database and technology training, and collection maintenance under the supervision of the Librarian 4, Toms River Information Services. The Librarian 3 provides key leadership in the Toms River Branch and may serve as the person-in-charge in the absence of the branch manager. This position also supervises Librarian 1 or 2 and/or Support Staff.
The successful Librarian 3 candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Creative, diplomatic and innovative leader who is enthusiastic about outreach and skilled in developing community partnerships and relationships.
- Able to champion the library’s Diversity Mission to provide inclusive serve to all customers.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Team-oriented, organized and experienced in creating and implementing library programs, partnerships and services.
- Solid communication, presentation and problem-solving skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented and skilled in project management.
- Ability to adapt to change, a positive outlook, and a leadership style that produces goal-based results.
- Must work well with all levels of library staff including the Library’s management team.
