Hispanic Heritage Month

In 1989, the United States Congress declared the period from September 15th through October 15th Hispanic Heritage Month in an effort to acknowledge and celebrate the diverse culture, customs, and ethnicities of Hispanic communities throughout the country. The State of New Jersey recognizes that its Hispanic community has played a vital role in enhancing and contributing to the rich diversity of our state.

Excellence in Hispanic Leadership Award
Since the award’s inception in 1994, the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development (CHPRD) has recognized through its “Excellence in Hispanic Leadership Award” the contributions of Latino and non-Latino individuals and organizations that have been at the forefront of advocating for the empowerment of the Hispanic community of the State of New Jersey. Past awardees recognized have showcased the Hispanic community in the areas of community service, arts, government, education, housing, media, corporate, inspiring youth and Hispanic non-profit organization. The Excellence Award is presented at the CHPRD’s Annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
