Affordable Housing in New Jersey

There are a number of resources available for locating affordable housing in New Jersey. COAH is NOT an administrative agency, but the links below provide information on applying for affordable housing units, including those that receive credit as part of a municipal plan certified by COAH.

The Housing Affordability Service (HAS) is a State agency that contracts with NJ municipalities to administer the sale and re-sale of affordable units. HAS can be reached at (609) 278-7579 and (609) 278-8841.

The New Jersey Guide to Affordable Housing is a listing compiled by the Department of Community Affairs Division of Codes and Standards. It lists all types of affordable housing by county. The housing units on the list have a variety of qualification requirements, including age-restricted housing and housing for the developmentally disabled.

New Jersey's Housing Resource Center is an online searchable listing services for all types of affordable housing in New Jersey. Landlords, developers, and administrators can post available units and contact information. Click on the logo to access the resource center. If you do not have access to the internet, call 211 for assistance.

Municipalities in New Jersey that have affordable housing units in plans certified by COAH have a designated municipal liaison or housing officer who keeps track of the units and administers them or can direct you to who administers them. To find out about affordable housing in a specific municipality, look at the Municipal Liaison List and contact the person listed for each municipality you are interested in. They will be able to refer you to all the administrator(s) for the affordable housing units within that municipality.

To report updates or corrections to this list, please contact COAH at (609) 292-3000.
