This program
ensures the safe handling of liquefied petroleum gas as directed by
the New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.).
"N.J.A.C. 5:18 for Liquefied Petroleum Gas" (LP-Gas) relates
to the design, construction and operation of LP-Gas Systems within the
State. The regulation addresses all propane, propylene, butane
and butylene hydrocarbons, and any mixtures of these for any vapor or
liquid transfer, or storage operation.
New Jersey uses the National Fire
Protection Association publication #58 (NFPA 58), "LP-Gas Code"
as the basis for the technical requirements of LP-Gas Systems within
the State. Additional requirements and clarifications are included in
N.J.A.C. 5:18.
In addition to the technical aspects
of LP-Gas Systems, N.J.A.C. 5:18 also includes requirements and procedures
for registration, inspection, plan submittal and review, approval, violations,
licensing, emergency situation, odorization fee assessment, auditing
procedures, quality control and the training of individuals in the LP-Gas
industry.
The
regulation includes the enforcement responsibilities of local construction
and fire officials, and municipalities relating to the registration,
approval, location and inspection of LP-Gas Systems.
