The New Jersey Office of Recreation's mission is to:

  • Encourage the expansion and development of recreational programs on a statewide and local basis and
  • Disseminate informational and related materials to governmental and other agencies engaged in fostering recreational programs.

    This mission is accomplished by ensuring the professional competency of the people who run recreation; expanding the number and diversity of recreation programs which integrate individuals with disabilities; and providing technical assistance on recreation issues, facilities, and programs. Current recreation issues include playground safety, playground accessibility, coaches certification, sports parent education programs, model code of conduct and the role of recreation in obesity prevention.
