TRENTON -- Trenton officials yesterday announced the opening of Patriot Village, a 37-unit affordable-housing development on the site of a vacant industrial property.
The apartments are located on Pennington Avenue at the site of the old CV Refrigeration factory, which was abandoned about 10 years ago.
The two-bedroom apartments range up to 1,300 square feet, while the three-bedroom apartments are as large as 1,500 square feet. Each contains central air conditioning, individual heating, hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances.
The apartments are for families earning less than $46,000 for a family of three and less than $51,000 for a family of four. The homes were built by RPM Development with financing from New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency through its HOME express and tax credit programs. The City of Tren ton provided long-term tax abatement to this development.
Rent on the apartments is $750 per month for a two-bedroom and $825 for a three-bedroom unit. All 37 apartments were rented on a first-come, first-served basis, said RPM Development President Ed Martoglio. More than 300 people applied to live in the new apart ments.
Trenton Mayor Douglas Palmer and State Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Joseph Doria were on hand for the opening.
