Funds to Benefit Agencies Across the State
|
TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ (DCA) Acting Commissioner Joseph Doria today announced that DCA will be providing $8.9 million in funding to 23 agencies across the state in order to help assist them in handling, reviewing and processing applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
“The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps give many low income New Jersey families financial assistance to heat their homes,” said Governor Jon. S. Corzine. “It is imperative that we continue to help these families, especially during the cold winter months.”
Last year, approximately 160,000 applications for LIHEAP were received. To apply for LIHEAP, a person may contact their local community based organization. A list of these agencies and income eligibility requirements is attached below. This year, the application period for LIHEAP is November 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.
“Governor Corzine has stressed the importance of providing those in need with the means necessary to receive home heating assistance,” said Commissioner Doria. “These funds will help agencies handle the numerous applications they will receive as we continue to enhance awareness and encourage people to take advantage of LIHEAP. I especially want to thank Senators Lautenberg and Menendez for their continued support of this program at the federal level."
LIHEAP is designed to help low-income families and individuals meet home heating and medically necessary cooling costs and provides low-income households with money to help pay their winter heating bills. LIHEAP funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is administered through the DCA’s Division of Community Resources.

Attached, please find the list of agencies receiving finding as well as a list of agencies where people can apply for LIHEAP.
