CHRISTIE ADMINISTRATION AWARDS $292,500 IN Funding Expands Diversity of Recreation Programs for People with Disabilities |
TRENTON, N.J. – The Christie Administration today announced the award of $292,500 in Recreation Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities (ROID) Grants. The funds will go to 36 municipalities throughout the state.
“It is one of New Jersey’s top priorities to provide opportunities for people of all walks of life and all ability levels to fully participate in their communities,” said DCA Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable III. “These grants, which will assist with varied recreational programs, demonstrate DCA’s commitment to expand and develop recreational opportunities for people with disabilities on both the state and local level.”
ROID Grants provide funding assistance to local units of government to support local programs that provide recreation and leisure activities for persons with disabilities. Funding is allocated through the DCA’s Division of Housing and Community Resources.
The ROID program strives to reinforce the status of persons with disabilities as complete members of the community; to promote the least restrictive environment in providing recreation and leisure service for persons with disabilities; and to assist local governments in the commencement or expansion of recreation and leisure services for person with disabilities.
