New Jersey Department of Community Affairs
Office of Smart Growth

The Office of Smart Growth in the Department of Community Affairs staffs the New Jersey State Planning Commission and the New Jersey Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force. Through the State Development and Redevelopment Plan, the Office works to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs of land development and infrastructure in New Jersey by expanding areas of coordination and cooperation among State and local agencies.

The Office of Smart Growth was formed as the Office of State Planning in 1986 to staff the State Planning Commission in developing and implementing the State Development and Redevelopment Plan and to pursue other activities to improve intergovernmental coordination and cooperation as defined by the State Planning Act.
