As part of New Jersey's legal mandate to investigate all allegations of abuse and neglect, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) manages the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit (IAIU). This unit addresses abuse and neglect allegations that take place in all public and private institutions and facilities. This mandate covers all public and private schools, child care centers, registered and unregistered family day care homes, children's residential treatment facilities and shelters, foster homes, detention and correctional facilities, camps and hospitals.
