TRENTON - New Jersey Department of Children and Families Commissioner Allison Blake continued Governor Christie's "Season of Service" initiative, celebrating the grand opening of the Palisades Family Success Center in Union City and reading to children.

The grand opening continues the growth of the state's community-based Family Success Center program, which now numbers 51.  The center and others like it throughout New Jersey provide families convenient access to services and helps them develop skills and knowledge to raise healthy children and build strong communities.

After touring the center Commissioner Blake read The Kindness Quilt, a story about kindness and selflessness, to small children attending the center.

"Today's celebration is further proof that Family Success Centers are a valuable and successful resource," said Commissioner Blake.  "We are reaching even more people in their own community, providing them access to programs to help them flourish and succeed.  We are committed to these centers because we are committed to helping New Jersey families."

The Union City center offers parenting and child development workshops, life skills training, English instruction, computer training, arts and crafts activities, cooking classes, a homework club, and social events to promote family and community interaction.

DCF is dedicated to ensuring a better today and an even greater tomorrow for every individual the department serves.  In partnership with New Jersey's communities, DCF ensures the safety, well-being, and success of New Jersey's children and families.  DCF funds and directly provides services and support to over 100,000 women, children and families each month.
