DPCP oversees PALS programs in seven counties for children who have witnessed domestic violence.  PALS is an evidence-based nationally recognized therapeutic program model that was piloted at Catholic Charities, Providence House in Willingboro with DYFS funds.  This intensive program provides counseling and creative arts therapy for children who have witnessed domestic violence, primarily aged four to twelve.  PALS works.  Children in the PALS program who received intensive treatment for six months showed a significant decrease in trauma- related symptoms and behavioral problems as compared to children in the PALS control group who received only weekly psycho-education in group sessions for ten weeks.  Just as children may learn to use violence through exposure to domestic violence at home, they can learn to use non violent problem-solving solutions.

In FY08, DPCP will expand the program to another three counties through a request for proposals.  The strategic goal is to expand PALS to all 21 counties.  There is no cost to participate in the PALS program.
