Ozone Mapping

From May to September, U.S. EPA creates maps of forecast and actual ground-level ozone concentrations. This summer, the maps cover most of the east coast as well as the Kentucky - Tennessee area and the upper midwest, with state and local monitoring agencies sending ozone data to EPA several times a day.

The maps are on EPA's ozone mapping web site, and EPA also makes them available to the companies that provide weather information to TV stations for the news. Here are some shortcuts to maps that include New Jersey (the animated ones may take some time to transfer):

Visit EPA's web site for more information and other maps.

NJN TV ozone map New Jersey Network (NJN) TV broadcasts air quality forecast maps on the news year-round. In summer 1996 they were the first station in the country to broadcast animated ozone maps that covered an entire state. The maps showed how ozone concentrations changed across New Jersey over the course of the day, using technology pioneered by the Maryland Department of the Environment and enhanced and expanded upon by NJDEP.
