Overall Goals of each Workgroup:
- Identify strategies to achieve emission reductions
- Prioritize reasonable and effective control measures
- Identify implementation issues and potential solutions
- Identify additional sources of data to enhance the state’s database of air pollutants
Mission Statement:
To recommend potential ways to control and/or reduce emissions from diesel engines. Topics include onroad vehicles (all categories - Light Duty Diesel Vehicles (LDDVs), Medium Duty Diesel Vehicles (MDDVs) and Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicles (HDDVs)), nonroad equipment (e.g. construction equipment), commercial marine vessels (ships), locomotives and stationary diesel engines. Discussion topics include use of fuels that would reduce emissions, as well as retrofit technologies and idling strategies.
Diesel Initiatives Subgroups
The participants of the Diesel Initiatives Workgroup decided on June 29, 2005, the first workgroup meeting, that in order make recommendations to the NJDEP efficiently, there would be 4 subgroups of the workgroup:
1. Diesel On-Road (heavy-duty trucks, buses)
2. Diesel Non-Road (construction equipment, trains, planes, ports)
3. Diesel Stationary (generators)
4. Diesel Other Mobile (trains, planes, ports) - This subgroup is no longer functioning separately and will be combined with the Diesel Non-Road (construction equipment) Subgroup as decided by the subgroup members on July 27, 2005.
Therefore, each subgroup only focused on its pertinent issues. Sign-up sheets were distributed and filled out by the participating members on the day of workshop (June 29, 2005).
