Fact: Under New Jersey’s SmartStart Building program, the installation of a state-of-the-art gas heating and cooling system is expected to save a school district of a New Jersey township more than $500,000 during the projected lifetime of the equipment. Additional savings will come from the energy-efficient lighting system.
How to Live Green, Save Green!
Register and certify your town in Sustainable New Jersey.
- It is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, control costs and save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term.
- You can also visit your local library for more details and utilize its resources to help you accomplish your community’s goals.
Why Bother?
The State is expected to gain over 20,000 housing units per year. In New Jersey, we had 3.4 million housing units in 2004.
In addition to this housing growth trend, global trends indicate the environment cannot withstand indefinitely our current course of consumption and production. The world’s natural resources support all life and are the basis of all production.
Continued growth in our consumption of natural resources is inherently unsustainable.
