Determining if an Emergency Generator can be used for normal testing/maintenance on a specific day when the air is not unhealthy
N.J.A.C. 7:27-19.2(d)2 prohibits the operation for testing and maintenance on days when the Department forecasts air quality anywhere in New Jersey to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups," "unhealthy," or "very unhealthy." The procedure for determining the air quality forecast has been simplified to require a facility to check the forecast after 4:00 pm the day before the scheduled testing and maintenance. Previously, a facility had to check the air quality forecast after 5:00 pm the day before the scheduled testing and maintenance.
A facility can still check the forecast from the night before on the day of the scheduled testing. The updated procedure can be found at the Department's air quality permitting web site at http://www.state.nj.us/dep/aqpp/aqforecast . The forecast can be found at http://airnow.gov/ and facilities can obtain air quality forecast via email through Enviroflash at http://www.enviroflash.info . Also, "Is the Air Clean Enough to Test My Emergency Generator: Instructions for Subscribing to Enviroflash" can be accessed under "General Guidance" at http://www.state.nj.us/dep/aqpp/permitguide.html .
