Reconnect
Program
Reconnect
is a no-charge computer recycling program for consumers throughout the
state of New Jersey and the City of Philadelphia.
The
program is intended to raise awareness of the importance of responsible
computer disposal and give residents a free and convenient way to do
the right thing with their unwanted computer equipment.
Reconnect is managed by Dell, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York
and Northern New Jersey, and Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey/Quaker
City Goodwill. The goal of the program is to keep more than four million
pounds of used computers and computer equipment from landfills in one
year and to educate residents on the importance of proper computer recycling.
Significance of Program to the Region
All
proceeds of value recovered from the recycled computer equipment go
to Goodwill to support job training and employment services programs.
Consumers can drop-off computer equipment at any of 23 locations throughout
New Jersey and Philadelphia.
New
Jersey is only the second state in the country to have a state-wide
consumer computer recycling program. Reconnect is available in a limited
number of U.S. communities including Austin, Texas, San Francisco, San
Diego, San Antonio, Pittsburgh, North Carolina, and the state of Michigan.
While computers are safe to use, they do contain some environmentally
sensitive materials. These materials can be safely removed or recycled,
but only if the computers are kept out of landfills in the first place.
Reconnect provides an environmentally responsible solution for computer
recycling.
What Happens to Donated Computer Equipment
Goodwill will accept and sort the donated computer equipment. The equipment
will be responsibly recycled through Dell’s Asset Recovery Services
value recovery program.
How to Recycle an Unwanted Computer
Residents of New Jersey and City of Philadelphia can visit www.reconnectpartnership.com
to locate the most convenient drop-off location at any of the 23 participating
Goodwill donation centers and retail stores.
There is no charge for dropping off a computer at Goodwill. Any brand
of used computer is accepted.
Customers
are responsible for removing data from their hard drives. Neither Goodwill
nor Dell is liable for data removal or protection.
Customers
may be able to deduct the value of the computer for tax purposes. Goodwill
will provide donors with a donation receipt at the time of donation.
