Background Information:
WasteWise is a free, voluntary program established by the United
States Environmental Protection Agency to promote waste reduction
(also known as source reduction), recycling and recycled product
procurement.
The New Jersey WasteWise Business Network is an organization
devoted to spreading the WasteWise message to businesses, local
governments and other organizations in New Jersey. In cooperation
with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection,
the Network will focus on the business sector; however, membership
is open to all organizations. Those organizations that choose
to participate in the New Jersey WasteWise Business Network
are not required to register as a WasteWise "partner"
or "endorser" although it is recommended.
WasteWise partners are asked to establish goals and file an
annual report regarding the status of the goals set forth. WasteWise
partners have access to a wide variety of resources, as well
as to one-on-one technical assistance to help develop and implement
program strategies. WasteWise endorsers are organizations that
recognize the value of WasteWise and actively promote it to
their members or constituents. Partners and endorsers in this
flexible program have numerous opportunities to be recognized
and rewarded for their achievements.
Through the Network, the State of New Jersey will become an
"advocate" as per WasteWise's States Campaign Initiative
and will enjoy special benefits such as the development of tools
and publications specifically suited to the needs of New Jersey.
Please consider participating as a member of the New Jersey
WasteWise Business Network. For more information, please contact
the NJDEP, Bureau of Recycling and Planning at 609-984-3438.
