Office of Enforcement Policy

The Office of Enforcement Policy is responsible for developing and coordinating enforcement policy across all media programs as linked below:


Air

Prevent, reduce and control air pollution and impact on climate change.


Coastal and Land Use

Regulate development (including clearing of vegetation and filling) within environmentally sensitive areas such as beaches, dunes, wetlands, and floodplains.

Dam Safety

Ensure the safety and integrity of dams in New Jersey and, thereby, protect people and property from the consequences of dam failures.

Hazardous Waste

Ensure hazardous waste is properly identified and collected, transported, treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.

Medical Waste

Ensure medical and infectious waste is properly collected, transported, treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.

Pesticides

Ensure pesticides, herbicides, and rodenticides are applied safely and effectively and reduce environmental and health issues.

Pollution Prevention

Supports materials accounting practices to reduce the amount and use of potentially harmful substances.


Quality Assurance Lab

Quality Assurance

The Office of Quality Assurance certifies laboratories and administers the Department's Quality Assurance Program to ensure environmental data is of documented quality and suitable for its intended use.

Release Prevention

Prevent incidents through implementation of Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Regulations and the New Jersey Spill Compensation Control Regulations.


Right to Know

Collect, process, and disseminate the chemical inventory, environmental release, and materials accounting data to inform public and emergency responders.

Site Remediation

Address ground and water pollution to safeguard environment and public health.


Solid Waste

Ensure garbage ("solid waste") and recyclables are properly collected, transported, treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.

Underground Storage Tanks

Ensure underground storage tanks and associated equipment is operated to prevent air, water and other pollution.

Water

Prevent, reduce and control water pollution and ensure safe drinking water.
