Division of Environmental Safety and Quality Assurance
The Division of Environmental Safety and Quality Assurance, under the direction of Director Joe Aiello, consists of the following units:
Bureau of Release Prevention -Works to protect public health and the environment by preventing incidents before they occur. Three focus areas carry out the Bureau's work:Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Act (TCPA) Program, Discharge Prevention Program, and Security.
Office of Quality Assurance - Certifies over 800 laboratories granting nearly 125,000 certifications each year. Certification is available in drinking water, wastewater, ambient water, soils, solid/hazardous waste, sludge and air for microbiological, toxicity, inorganic, organic, radon, radiochemical and biological properties. It also administers the Department's Quality Assurance Program. It has the responsibility to ensure that environmental data is generated, compiled and reviewed using specific quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
Office of Pollution Prevention and Right to Know - Prevents pollution of hazardous substances, promotes multi-media environmental management and public awareness, reduces the use of toxic substance, tracks the storage, use and release of hazardous substances, and keeps New Jersey’s environment safe for its citizens and businesses.
