HWC&E TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Welcome to the Hazardous Waste Compliance and Enforcement (HWC&E) Training Opportunities page. Our goal is to provide the regulated community with the information they need to better understand the regulations and maintain compliance. HWC&E initiated the training program pursuant to a component of our Strategic Plan, which requires DEP to “effectively balance compliance assistance, enforcement and education to achieve compliance and move the regulated community and the public towards environmental stewardship”.
HWC&E presented two seminars in 2008. On May 7, 2008 we reran the Basic Hazardous Waste Handler Seminar, and on October 1, 2008 we presented the Universal Waste & Used Oil seminar. There was such a positive response to the Universal Waste & Used Oil seminar that we have decided to present it again. As you can see below, we will be rerunning this seminar on May 6, 2009. Further information on the seminars can be found below along with space for you to register. As always, the seminar is offered free of charge.
Universal Waste & Used Oil Seminar
The Universal Waste & Used Oil seminar was presented on June 3, 2009. It was held at PSE&G’s Hadley Road Support Center in South Plainfield, NJ. Nearly 60 people attended the seminar, and based on the evaluation results, it was very well received. This seminar provided a more focused emphasis on the subject of Universal Waste and Used Oil. Each session included a general lecture on understanding the regulations, followed by talks from an industry representative and a NJDEP inspector. The sessions concluded with a panel discussion.
Basic Hazardous Waste Handler Seminar
The Basic Hazardous Waste Handler Seminar was presented on May 7, 2008. It was held at the New Jersey State Police building in Robbinsville, NJ. Nearly 100 people attended the seminar, and based on the evaluation results, it was very well received.
This seminar provides a thorough overview of both State and Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations. Large, Small, and Conditionally Exempt Generators; Transporters of hazardous wastes and used oils; and Universal Waste Handlers benefit from attending this seminar. Compliance Advisories
Compliance and Enforcement has been issuing Compliance Advisories since 2003. Compliance Advisories are fact sheets that deal with a variety of environmental issues. They are referred to as either an Update, Alert or Warning. For example, on March 2008 an Update entitled “DEP Develops Guidelines for Proper Disposal of Household Medication” was issued. Later that month a Warning entitled “Smoke from Outdoor Wood Boilers Prohibited” was issued.

This will take you to Compliance & Enforcement’s webpage. Click on the “Compliance Advisories” balloon to see them. There is also a place where you can subscribe to have future Advisories sent to you via email.
