a Solid and Hazardous Waste Enforcement Initiative
Press
Release (10/31/2002)
In October 2002, DEP Compliance and
Enforcement continued to partner with the NJ State Police
and surrounding states to conduct periodic, random roadside
truck inspections to ensure compliance with mechanical,
safety and environmental laws. The Department's goal
was to determine whether trucks were properly transporting
and disposing of hazardous and solid waste by checking
vehicle registrations and truck placarding and by reviewing
paperwork on waste identification, source and destination.
This most recent initiative lasted 5 days in October
2002 and netted 57 environmental violations.
