The Northern WET Team conducted a preliminary survey of
several waterways in Northeast New Jersey. Within the
first 2 hours of surveillance, they identified an unauthorized
discharge of sewage to the Hudson River in Edgewater Borough,
Bergen County. The investigation is on-going and they
are in the process of identifying the responsible party.
On the same day they performed surveillance of the Saddle
River in Lodi Borough, Bergen County. Here, solid waste
and land use violations were identified in an industrial
park, along a 200 foot stretch of the Saddle River. They
met with the property owner who agreed he will correct
the violations and remove all of the solid waste (construction
debris, old appliances, macadam, wood waste, a 55-gallon
drum, other solid waste) from the bank of the Saddle River
and cleanup the remainder of his property.
Information gathered during the
patrol and subsequent follow-up inspections was entered
into the department's database, New Jersey Environmental
Management System (NJEMS). Details about the inspections
completed, the enforcement actions issued, and violations
found are recorded in NJEMS and accessible to the public.
