The State of New Jersey has four agencies which
certify that a business is a bona fide minority
business enterprise (MBE) or women business enterprise
(WBE). The four agencies (New Jersey Commerce
and Economic Growth Commission, NJ Dept. of Transportation,
New Jersey Transit, and Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey) have a formal certification
process which are directed by federal and/or New
Jersey state regulations in the determination
of a firm's MBE/WBE status. Upon completion of
this process, MBE/WBE firms are provided with
the opportunity to compete for state and/or federally
funded contracts.
