2003 Fish Art and Writing Contest Winners

The winning entrants in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife's Fish Art and Writing Contest were honored when trout season opened on Saturday, April 12, at the Pequest Trout Hatchery & Natural Resource Education Center in Oxford, Warren County.

Asst. Commissioner for Natural Resources Marc Matsil and Division Director Marty McHugh were present to honor the youngsters' accomplishments.

After fishing, the winners received plaques and fishing equipment at an awards luncheon. New Jersey Council of Trout Unlimited sponsored the awards luncheon and winners' awards.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage children in grades 4 through 8 to learn about New Jersey's fish. They submitted original artwork that depicted the fish in its habitat. The essay was a short biography of a New Jersey fish. The Signature Shoppe of Clinton donated framing of the kids' art.
