and the
NJ Chapter of The Wildlife Society
Announce the
Russell A. Cookingham Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by an endowment from Russell A. Cookingham, former Director of the New Jersey DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. It is intended to assist qualified students in the wildlife/fisheries or conservation education/communication field with college and related expenses. The New Jersey DEP Division of Fish & Wildlife and the NJ Chapter of The Wildlife Society are partnering in the selection and award of the scholarships.
Students who have completed at least one half of the degree requirements for Wildlife/Fisheries or Conservation Education/Communications major may be eligible for this $1000.00 scholarship. (Conservation Education/Communication majors must have at least 15 credits in the biological sciences to be eligible). Students must reside permanently in New Jersey. New Jersey residents attending school out-of-state are eligible.
The 2008 Cookingham Scholarship was awarded to Daniel Bingham, a senior at University of Montana in Missoula. A resident of Toms River, Dan was a 12-time all academic Big Sky Conference award recipient in track and field. Dan volunteered on salmon projects and did trail work. He worked in the genetics lab and for Oregon Fish and Wildlife while in school. He plans to go on to graduate school to study consequences of habitat fragmentation on wildlife population genetics.
The 2009 award has been suspended due the economic downturn. The chapter anticipates being able to award a scholarship in 2010. This page will updated at that time.
