Paul Ripperger's Sea Run Browns

On January 3, 2000, Paul Ripperger of Neptune City, NJ, landed a pre-spawn female sea run brown trout stocked by the Division of Fish and Wildlife in October, 1997. The fish bit on a chartreuse spawn sac on 4 lb. test line in the Manasquan River just upstream of the Garden State Parkway. The fish weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 23 inches.

In December 2000, he topped that impressive fish with a sea run brown weighing 8½ pounds. This fish, also in the Manasquan, bit on a killie downstream of Hospital Road. The fish measured 28 inches and illustrates the potential of the Sea Run Brown Trout Program.
