Beach Nesting Birds Seasonal Field Assistants (5)

Background: Wildlife Biology
Location: Tuckahoe Field Office (Cape May County)

Job Description: Surveying and monitoring of nesting Piping Plovers, Least Terns, Black Skimmers and American Oystercatchers along the Atlantic Coast of New Jersey. Duties including locating nests and broods; constructing predator exclosures; fencing, posting and patrolling nesting areas; data collection and entry; educating beachgoers.

The 40-hour work week includes 5 weekdays prior to Memorial Day, and then 3 weekdays and both weekend days for the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Requirements: At least three years towards a degree in wildlife biology, ecology or related field. The ability to work cooperatively with the beach-going public and the capacity to effectively communicate with people with differing views in a calm and rational manner is essential. Applicant should be in good physical condition, willing and able to work independently and as part of a team, organized and disciplined and enthusiastic about working to help protect NJ's endangered beach nesting birds.

Compensation: Salary $11.00-$15.00 per hour (depending on education, experience and job responsibility). Use of personal vehicle may be required in some limited circumstances mileage will be reimbursed if use of personal vehicle is necessary for work. Housing is NOT provided.
