The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife recently announced a proposed amendment to the current 1999-2000 New Jersey Game Code. The proposed change is being made in an effort to increase the efficiency of the deer permit application process and would extend the application period for deer permits from August 15 to June 1 of each year. The extension would also apply to farmer deer permit applications.

Published in the March 6 New Jersey Register, the public has 30 days to comment on the proposal.

The Game Code describes procedures, dates, location and harvest limits on the hunting or possession of game birds, mammals, and fur-bearing animals in New Jersey.

Copies of the proposed amendment are available for review at the Division's main and regional offices. In addition, interested individuals may obtain a copy of the proposed amendment by sending a business-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Game Code Amendment, NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, P.O. Box 400, Trenton, NJ 08625-0400. Written comments must submitted no later than April 5 to Director Bob McDowell at the above address.
