According to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, the mail-in lottery system for issuing special deer hunting permits was able to accommodate most applicants this year. Additional firearm permits will be available for over-the-counter sales on Sunday, November 12.

"Nearly every applicant was successful in getting a shotgun or muzzleloader permit for their first choice in both the first and second lotteries," said Division Director Bob McDowell. "Also, this is the second year that over-the-counter sales will take place on Sunday, so that hunters will not lose any recreational opportunities on Saturday."

The Division of Fish and Wildlife will sell the remaining permits on a first come, first served basis. Shotgun and muzzleloader permits are available for the following zones: 1 - 19, 21 - 31, 33 -61, 63, and 65 - 67. Shotgun permits only are available for zones: 56, 60 and 66. Zones 56 and 66 will be sold only at the Nacote Creek Research Station. Shotgun and muzzleloader permits for zones: 57, 58 and 61 will be sold only at the Nacote Creek Office. Shotgun and muzzleloader permits for zone 59 will be sold only at the Southern Region Office. Shotgun and muzzleloader permits for zone 54 will be sold only at the Pequest Office.

Please note that there are less than 20 shotgun permits available in zones 37, 54, 56 and 59. There are less than 20 muzzleloader permits for zones: 53, 54, 57, 59 and 61.
