2006 Deer Permit Lottery Information

August 10, 2006

There are some major changes to the deer permit application and purchase process for the upcoming 2006-2007 Permit Deer Seasons.

As in past years, there are 9 zones that have a limited supply of permits available and will necessitate a deer permit lottery. Those zones include zone 37 - Fort Dix Military Reservation, zone 38 - Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, zones 56, 57 and 58 - Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, zone 59 - Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, zone 61 - Atlantic County Park System, zone 64 - Monmouth Battlefield State Park, and zone 67 - High Point State Park.

The deer permit lottery only applies for the zones listed above. The 2006 Deer permit lottery application period will begin on August 14, 2006 and end at midnight September 10, 2006. The Division no longer accepts paper applications. Deer permit lottery applications must be completed at any license agent that is equipped with the new Integrated Electronic Licensing System (IELS) or by visiting the Division's Internet License Sales Site (https://nj.aspirafocus.com/internetsales/). A list of license agents that are currently equipped with the IELS system can be found at www.njfishandwildlife.com/agentlst.htm.

A $2.00 application fee will be charged at the time of application. Throughout the application period, applicants will have the ability to check their lottery application status or change their zone choices, free of charge, by visiting the Internet sales site. License agents cannot modify a lottery application or check its status once the application has been submitted but applicants can modify applications submitted through a license agent on the Division's Internet License Sales Site.

Applicants using the Internet Sales Site will have the choice of being notified of their lottery status either by email or by postcard. At some agent locations, applicants will also have the choice of being notified of their lottery status either by email or by postcard. Applicants that apply at agent locations whose system does not provide a notification method choice will automatically be notified by postcard.

After the lottery has been conducted, all applicants will receive notification of award or non-selection via the method selected during application (email or postcard). Successful applicants may then return to either the Internet Sales site or any license agent equipped with the IELS system to pick up their permits. Payment of the remaining balance ($26.00 for adults, $10.00 for youth permits) is due upon receipt of the permit. Permits purchased using the Internet sales site will include an additional shipping and handling fee of $1.50 plus 2.5% of the total transaction fee.

Successful applicants will have until midnight of October 8, 2006 to claim their permits. Any lottery permits that are not claimed by this date will be returned to the pool of available deer permits and sold over-the-counter on a first come first serve basis starting October 10, 2006.

The over the counter sales period for both leftover lottery zone permits and permits for all non-lottery zones will begin on October 10, 2006. The non-lottery zones include 1 through 19, 21 through 31, 34, 35, 36, 41, 42, 43, 45 through 51, 55, 63 and 65. Permits will be available through the Division's Internet Sales site or at any license agent equipped with the new IELS.

The Hunting Issue of the Fish and Wildlife Digest should be available both online and at license agents the last week of August.
