Cooperative Marine Law Operation Results in Summonses

May 22, 2007

NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife Marine Enforcement staff routinely work with the US Coast Guard to protect our marine resources. Such activity can include vessel inspections off the state's shoreline.

One recent operation involved two Atlantic City party boats, the Miss Atlantic City and the Captain Collet. The vessels were boarded and several violations were discovered, resulting in a total of 37 summonses issued to 28 different patrons. Officers discovered and seized 400 sea bass and 26 tautog. The offenses included possession of short fish (under the legal size limit) and possession above the legal creel limit. Additionally, two warnings for interference were issued. The investigation is continuing as to whether federal charges for fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zone without required permits apply.
