Division Conservation Officer Receives Command Citation

Conservation Officer Shannon Martiak was awarded a Bureau of Law Enforcement Command Citation for services rendered where a NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife civilian employee's life was threatened by an individual as a result of an investigation she had participated in. Through his tireless efforts, CO Martiak worked with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, the New Jersey State Police, and the South Amboy Municipal Police Department to identify the individual responsible for these threats, quite possibly saving the life of the Division's employee. Officer Martiak was hired as a State Conservation Officer in October of 2000 and has served with distinction for 14 + years. Currently assigned to the Central Region Law Enforcement Headquarters located in Robbinsville, he has earned the following Certifications and received the following instruction: Emergency Medical Technician, FEMA Incident Command System, Surface Ice Rescue Technician, Small Boat Handling and Marine Rescue, Tactical Tracking and Wooded Terrain Operations, CPR/Basic Life Support, Hunting Accident Re-construction and investigation, PTC Police Instructor, Wilderness First Aid and Water Safety.

Conservation Officer Martiak is currently serving within the Bureau of Law Enforcement on the following special units: Scoped Rifle Team, Honor Guard, and Field Training Officer. He is also an active Division Representative to the Middlesex County Federation of Sportsmen.

Prior awards include: A 2002 Distinguished Service Award for his off-duty response to the 9/11 attack, the 2007 Conservation Officer of the Year Award, and a 2010 life saving award from the North American Wildlife Officer's Association for CPR administered while on duty at Liberty Island.
