Turkey Hunting Seminar March 18 - Batsto Village

February 3, 2017

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife and the NJ Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NJNWTF) will present a Wild Turkey Hunting Seminar on Saturday, March 18 at Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest in Burlington County. The seminar will begin at 1:00 p.m. and is free of charge. This is a great opportunity for participants of all ages and skill levels to learn about turkey hunting and the latest turkey hunting techniques.

The seminar will be conducted by Lou Gambale, chapter president, and will include tips to improve the hunting skills of both the novice and experienced turkey hunter. Topics include preseason site selection, turkey feeding habits and food sources, equipment selection, and calling strategies. The life history of the wild turkey will also be discussed, as will New Jersey's Wild Turkey Restoration Project - one of the greatest wildlife success stories of all time.

A turkey-calling clinic will be held immediately following the seminar. Lou will demonstrate various calls, call conditioning and allow participants to try their luck with box, slate, and air-operated turkey calls. Participants are welcome to bring their personal calls.

Pre-registration is not required but is appreciated. Individuals can pre-register by calling 609-259-6961 or by e-mailing Michelle.Smith@dep.nj.gov. Please include name, phone number and the number of people attending.
