All New Jersey students in grades 1 through 8 are invited to submit essays in the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife's twelfth annual Fishing Essay Contest. The theme of this year's essay is "My Favorite Fishing Buddy." A fictional account may be submitted by non-anglers or those who prefer their imagination.

"Students are once again invited to participate in the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife's annual essay contest," said Division Director Bob McDowell. "It's an excellent opportunity for youngsters to share with teachers, classmates and families the excitement and enthusiasm they feel about fishing."

There will be first, second and third place winners in each of the following four categories: Grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Essays are limited to 200 words and will be judged according to originality, style, expression of ideas and proper use of English grammar.

Each winner will receive an engraved plaque as well as an assortment of fishing equipment. In addition, each winner will be invited to the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center in Warren County for a special VIP tour and luncheon where he/she will have a chance to fish at Pequest's Fishing Education Pond with Division Director Bob McDowell on the opening day of trout season, Saturday, April 11, 1998.

Entries must be postmarked by Monday, February 23rd. Entries must include the entrant's name, address, telephone number, grade and school name. Essays become the property of the Division and will not be returned.

Submit essays to: ESSAY CONTEST, Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife, Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center, 605 Pequest Road, Oxford, New Jersey 07863.
