Pequest Open House
and
Sportsmen's Flea Market

March 29 & 30, 2014
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily
FREE!

Bass tank presentation Every year the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center opens its doors to the public for its annual Open House. In 2014 the Open House was held Saturday and Sunday March 29 and 30. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, rain or shine. Admission is always free, as is parking. No pets are allowed at this event - only service dogs are permitted on site.

The Open House is usually held the week before the start of New Jersey's Opening Day of Trout Season (April 5, 2014) and gives visitors the opportunity to see how hundreds of thousands of brook, brown and rainbow trout are raised for stocking at favorite fishing spots throughout the state. Each year, thousands of people come to the hatchery to experience this event for themselves, and each year the Division of Fish and Wildlife strives to make this a bigger event than the year before.

This year was no different, and along with the focus on hatchery operations there were numerous environmental and conservation exhibits, historical reenactors, wildlife artists, carvers and taxidermists. Activities included fishing, archery hunter education (register at www.nj.wildlifelicense.com in mid-February), and crafts for children. A Sportsmen's Flea Market was also held, offering some good deals on both new and used equipment, lures, gear and so much more!
