Map Description:

According to crash data from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Newark’s streets are the state’s deadliest compared to any other city. The map highlights reported crashes from 2001 through 2008, with point markers colored by severity. Some point coordinates are supplied in the DOT dataset. However, most were obtained using the ArcMap Linear Referencing tools to geocode milepoints, and the Google Geocoder API using the nearest intersection, written in police reports. Road centerlines and NAIP imagery are added for context.
