Map Description:

Prehistoric Life in New Jersey contains images superimposed on a geologic map of New Jersey to provide an understanding of the varied life forms found in the rocks of the state and their ages. Included are stromatolites, some of the most ancient fossil records of life on Earth, New Jersey’s most famous dinosaur, Hydrosaurus, large marine lizards called Mosasaurs, 30-million-year-old sharks, crocodiles, Ice Age woolly mammoths and many more types of ancient life found in the state. The life forms are positioned on the map approximately where their fossils and bones have been discovered. They range in age from the Precambrian, about 1.2 billion years ago, through the last Ice Age, just a few thousand years ago.
